Jackie Simpson, associate vice chancellor and director of housing and residence life, will retire from the University in May after 37 years of service. A retirement reception will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 19, in SoVi at South Village Crossing. A brief program will start at 2 p.m.

At the University of Jos, Africana Studies professor Honore Missihoun plans to teach and analyze texts from Francophone countries in Africa to better understand how the exploitation of women, land and natural resources resulted from patriarchal and male-dominated societies.

A “transition reception” in honor of Art (Dr. J) Jackson, vice chancellor for student affairs, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons. He is transitioning from his position as vice chancellor to become a part-time faculty member in the Cato College of Education. He has been with the University for 10 years.

Tanure Ojaide, Frank Porter Graham Professor of Africana Studies, had the work “At Home, Away from Home: A Memoir” published by Cissus World Press.
