Jason Edgecombe ’99, a Linux administrator with OneIT, died Aug. 16. A veteran employee with more than 20 years of service, Edgecombe joined the University after completing a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Lucian Wilhelm, a veteran Charlotte staff member with 28 years of service, is the senior associate director for conferences, reservations and event services. Learn about her role, her obsession with BBC dramas and the day she met the Beastie Boys.

Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte? 

I manage the office that schedules meetings and events across campus for internal and affiliated groups. We primarily work with student organizations and departments to schedule space and event support.

Six years ago, Anna Helms ’12 became the director of constituent relations in the Office of External Relations and Partnerships. But first, she was a UNC Charlotte student and served as the student government administrative assistant. What are the new features in the Self Service Banner upgrade?

Eric Rhodes ’11, who served as an IT system administrator with the Lee College of Engineering, died Aug. 1.

Rhodes, who completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, was responsible for the day-to-day operation of Mosaic computer systems, including desktop and network server machines. He joined the University as a full-time employee in June 2015.

Employee Natasha Stracener ’98 is UNC Charlotte’s first Erskine B. Bowles Staff Service Award recipient from UNC Charlotte. Learn more about Stracener’s job, her most rewarding work during the pandemic and her unforgettable night singing carols at Miss Bonnie Cone’s home. 

How long have you been at UNC Charlotte? 

Penny Hawkins has been appointed associate vice chancellor for development at UNC Charlotte. She has served in the role in an interim capacity since July 15, 2022. She succeeds Beth Crigler, who was appointed recently vice chancellor for university advancement.
