EAO names June raffle winners

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Chris Alspaugh, extended academic programs; Kelly Franklin, English Language Training Institute; Rebecca Hefti, College of Education; and Carol Hartley, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, won $5 gift cards to Walmart as part of the June weekly raffles sponsored by the Environmental Assistance Office (EAO). Toryn Stark, extended academic programs, won the monthly drawing for a $25 Lowe’s gift card.

“The IDEAS Center, the Environmental Assistance Office and the UNC Charlotte Air Action team would like to congratulate our June Summer Air Quality Raffle winners,” said Karyn Williamson-Coria. “We also would like to thank the large number of faculty and staff members who are working to reduce ozone levels this summer by not driving during their lunch hours and by filling up their cars before 6:00 AM or after 6:00 PM  We look forward to everyone’s continued participation.”

The EAO is holding raffles through Aug. 31 to encourage University employees to help prevent unnecessary carbon dioxide and gas fumes from entering into the atmosphere on Air Quality Action Days, when the air quality is unhealthy for children, active adults and those with heart or respiratory disease, such as asthma. On these days, outdoor activity should be limited.  Codes Orange, Red or Purple are designations of increasing levels of unhealthy air quality and are considered Air Quality Action Days.

Employees who don’t drive during lunch can email the EAO with the location of where they dined on campus to be entered into a weekly drawing for a $5 gift card (eaoforsb@uncc.edu).

Individuals who fill up their car with 10-plus gallons of gas before 6:00 AM or after 6:00 PM can scan the receipt and email to eaoforsb@uncc.edu or send a copy of the receipt to EAO, Cameron Building, Room 239, along with their name and campus email address, for a monthly drawing to win a $20 to $25 gift card.

Additional information about the air quality forecast is available on the N.C. Division of Air Quality website. Forecasts are posted daily after 3:00 PM for the next day.

Faculty or staff members who have questions about air quality events or who would like to learn more about the N.C. Air Awareness “Race to the Beach” contest to win a Wrightsville Beach vacation by practicing clean commuting should email Williamson-Coria at kwill235@uncc.edu.
