The English Language Training Institute (ELTI) will conduct language testing for incoming teaching assistants whose first language is not English. Testing will be at 1:30 PM, Friday, Aug. 17, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 281.
All non-native, English-speaking teaching assistants (TAs) who are paid from teaching assistant funds are required to undergo English language testing. Departments that employ non-native, English-speaking TAs are encouraged to send them for English language assessment, regardless of their length of stay in the United States or the number of other American institutions they have attended.
ELTI also facilitates the required language assessments for new faculty members for whom English is not their first language. Departments conducting faculty searches should arrange for required pre-employment English language assessment for any candidates for whom English is not their first language, regardless of how long the candidates have been in the United States or where their degrees were obtained.
Confidential English language consultation for international faculty and TAs is available throughout the year, including the summer. In the 2011-12 academic year, faculty, visiting scholars and TAs from about 25 University departments took advantage of these language support services.
