Football stadium taking shape

Thursday, August 2, 2012

What a difference a year makes - groundbreaking for the 49ers football stadium took place on April 28, 2011, and in the intervening time, construction crews have worked to shape the new campus addition.

Progress on the stadium continues; however, since work began there has been:

  • 179,305 cubic yards of dirt removed
  • 505,271 bricks laid
  • 124,311 concrete blocks used
  • 10,000 cubic yards of concrete poured
  • 32,875 feet of plumbing pipe installed

Once completed, the 49ers football complex will house a 15,000-seat stadium that can be expanded to 40,000 seats, the 98,000-square-foot McColl-Richardson Field, the Halton Field House and two practice fields.

The Charlotte 49ers inaugural home game is slated for Aug. 31, 2013, against Campbell University.
