Effective Aug. 1, Claire Kirby is director of undergraduate admissions. During her seven-year tenure at the University, Kirby has earned progressive promotions since starting as an assistant director of admissions. Most recently, she served as interim director of admissions.

In announcing the appointment, Tina McEntire, associate provost for enrollment management, noted, “As associate director of admissions, Claire continually displayed leadership skills in marketing, program planning and technology development.  She created the first extensive, constituent-based recruitment and marketing plan and has provided oversight of its execution annually for the last five years.  She also led the conceptual development of the first-ever Admitted Student Day in spring 2011, which yielded more than 2,000 admitted freshmen and family members. Last spring, Claire contracted with a consulting firm to assess our campus visit experience and led the efforts to enhance our already successful visit program.”

As interim director, Kirby has served as the primary leader of the Admissions Office during a year where the yield of freshmen has exceeded all expectations, McEntire stated.  “As director, Claire will be responsible for continually leading the admissions team to meet the annual enrollment goals for new undergraduate students.  Her wide range of experience will guide the future vision of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.”

Prior to UNC Charlotte, Kirby served as an orientation coordinator in undergraduate admissions at the University of Alabama. She has more than 12 years of admissions experience at public and private institutions.
