Robinson Hall mural celebrates artistic rhythm

Visitors to UNC Charlotte’s Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts are greeted with a new mural that “brings color, rhythm and a celebration of performance” to the building, according to officials with the College of Arts + Architecture.

“An Endless Performance” was created by students Nicole Anderson and Missy Mace, who are pursing bachelor’s degrees in fine arts. Maya Godlewska and Susan Brenner, art and art history, served as faculty advisors on the project.

“Our goal was to address the multifaceted nature of the performing arts,” wrote the students in a artist statement. “Repetition was used to reference both the rhythm and habitual practice necessary to excel in each of these fields.

The color scheme responds to the dynamic, jubilant work of the performing arts. Finally, the figurative forms address the physicality of the individual performers or artists.”

The 10-foot tall, 30-foot wide mural hangs above the box office counter. It was painted on six panels made of corrugated plastic and will be displayed through spring 2013.
