Free luncheon, agency fair to kick off Giving Green Campaign

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

The 2012 Giving Green Campaign, a campus-wide initiative to benefit three important local and state organizations, formally starts Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet will serve lunch during the kick-off event, which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A ticket will be required for the free luncheon; however, the agency fair featuring nonprofit organizations that benefit from the Giving Green Campaign is open to all faculty and staff members. To receive a ticket for the lunch, email Sharon Horinka (shorinka@uncc.edu) by Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Giving Green is the University’s streamlined fundraising effort for the Arts & Science Council (ASC), the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.  During this annual period, University faculty and staff members have the opportunity to provide financial support to any or all of the campaign beneficiaries through a one-time donation or a gift via payroll deduction over the course of a year.

Tina McEntire, associate provost for enrollment management, and Dustin Read, director of the Center for Real Estate in the Belk College of Business, are the co-chairs for this year’s campaign. Both are UNC Charlotte alumni, McEntire earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1991 and 1996, respectively. Read completed a Ph.D. in 2008.

According to Giving Green officials, employees who make a financial donation during the kickoff luncheon will be entered into a drawing for various prizes, including a flat-screen TV, athletic tickets and gift cards and baskets.
