Spring campus cleanup scheduled, tree planting planned

Thursday, February 28, 2013

The Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling and the Facilities Management Grounds Department will coordinate a campus-wide cleanup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 20. This event is being held in conjunction with the University’s observance of Earth Day. In addition to volunteers for the cleanup, faculty and staff members can join in a spring tree planting that day.

The EARTH Club and Charlotte Green Initiative are organizing student volunteers, and Chancellor Philip L. Dubois has authorized 90 minutes of release time for all faculty and staff members who are interested in volunteering in this effort. Participation must be approved by supervisors based upon the office/department/unit needs.

On the day of the event, participants should meet at the Belk Tower, College of Health and Human Services Plaza or the Motorsports Lab. Volunteers will sign in to receive an assigned area and “litter cleanup” supplies (maps, bags, pickup sticks and gloves).

Details on the spring tree planting are being finalized; however, anyone interested in joining this effort should email Kathy Boutin-Pasterz, recycling coordinator, at kboutin@uncc.edu. Department/unit directors should designate one person to collect the names and participation times of volunteers for the campus cleanup, too, and email them to Boutin-Pasterz.
