In honor of the arrival of spring, the Iranian Student Organization will hold a Nowruz celebration at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 16, in the Student Union, Room 340.

This event will feature cultural displays and presentations and a dance and reception. Nowruz is the name of the Iranian/Persian New Year; it is celebrated by Iranian peoples and has spread to other parts of the world, including Central Asia, Caucasus, South Asia and some groups in the Balkans.

In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly recognized the International Day of Nowruz, describing it as a spring festival of Persian origin, which has been celebrated from more than 3,000 years.
