Film screening to focus on 'motel kids'

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

In partnership with Graduate & Professional Student Government, the Graduate Social Work Association and the Department of Social Work, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will host a screening of “Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, in the Student Union Movie Theater.  A panel discussion will follow.

“Homeless” explores the world of children residing in discount motels within walking distance of Disneyland. “Motel kids,” whose parents don’t earn enough to own or rent homes,  live in limbo as their families struggle to survive in one of the wealthiest regions in America. Their parents work week to week, hoping to find some opportunity to achieve upward mobility.

Homeless is directed by award-winning journalist, producer and filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi. The screening is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund.
