Literary magazine wins Addy Award

UNC Charlotte’s literary-arts magazine “Sanskrit” took home the gold recently at the 2013 AAF ADDY Awards, an annual ceremony hosted by AAF Charlotte, an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation.

“Sanskrit” received a Student Gold ADDY Award in the “collateral material” category for its publication and book design. Student graphic designers Laura White, Ada Hogue and Cassidy Burnette were recognized for their contributions to the magazine’s look.

White, who took home three ADDYs, noted that “Sanskrit’s” win at the Addys garners national attention for the magazine.

“It’s a really significant award,” White noted. “The ADDYs are hyper-competitive, and this win in the local competition moves 'Sanskrit' on to regionals. Winners there move to competitions for top-tier designs from the whole east coast and then on to nationals. This ADDY brought a lot of recognition to ‘Sanskrit’ and UNC Charlotte.”

In addition to the 2013 Addy, “Sanskrit” has received other regional and national awards during the past several years, including a prestigious Pacemaker Award from the Associated College Press.

“Sanskrit” is a collection of poems, short stories and art from UNC Charlotte students and contributors from all over the world. Visit its website to learn about submission requirements and to read archived issues.
