Jennifer Matz is assistant director of community affairs in the Division for University Advancement. In this role, she will help build community partnerships and serve as a resource to the community on behalf of the University as it strives to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the greater Charlotte region.

“I’m very excited to be a part of representing UNC Charlotte within the region,” said Matz, who will report to Jeanette Sims, director of community affairs.  “The University’s contributions to our community – including industry and service – are extraordinarily impressive.  I look forward to helping grow those efforts and tell the University’s story.”

Part of University advancement, the community affairs function plays an integral role in supporting the University’s mission by cultivating community support and affinity. It helps strengthen the identity and awareness of the region’s only doctoral-granting institution in order to build and sustain effective, lasting partnerships throughout the community and state.

Matz will manage signature projects such as the campus’ partnership with the schools at Governor’s Village, and she will work to create new campus-wide volunteer initiatives and will handle community-related communications.

Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Matz served as the regional director of development at Queens University.  She also held the positions of director of community relations and assistant director of donor and community relations at the institution.

Matz completed a bachelor’s degree from Queens in 1999 and went on to earn a master’s degree in strategic communication.
