SACS team applauds University’s QEP

UNC Charlotte's new Quality Enhancement Plan "Prospect for Success" has passed a significant test—with flying colors—as the accreditation team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) had only encouragement for the work during its site visit to the University this week.

The QEP, the product of months of development, is a comprehensive plan to infuse freshman curricula with tactics aimed at enhancing students' engagement in the UNC Charlotte experience, from their first days on campus, in order to improve learning and graduation.

"The SACS visiting committee called our work 'incredible,' and I think we should be very proud that the work to establish the QEP is seen as such a success," Provost Joan Lorden said. "And now the real work begins, as we develop 'Prospect' content in courses across disciplines and put into action the strategies we believe will make our students' academic experiences even stronger and richer."

Lorden noted that the work leading up to the site visit involved many individuals across the University. She thanked, in particular, Christine Robinson, University accreditation manager, for her leadership in the overall success of our efforts to demonstrate compliance with the SACS standards,  and John Smail, associate provost for undergraduate studies and dean of University College, for his leadership in the development of the QEP.

The members of the QEP executive committee are Bruce Taylor, University College and the College of Education; Charles Brody from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Teresa Dahlberg, from the College of Computing and Informatics; Liz Fitzgerald, director of first-year programs; Owen Furuseth from Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs; Jay Raja, academic affairs; Cathy Sanders, institutional research; and Robinson and Smail.
