Regina Guyer, executive director of the University’s Environmental Assistance Office, and Karyn Williamson-Coria, administrative support specialist, were recognized recently for their outreach efforts to raise awareness about air quality issues.

Kelly Smith, Charlotte area air awareness coordinator for Mecklenburg County Air Quality, presented the honor. Williamson-Coria also was recognized for efforts with the summer N.C. Air Awareness “Race to the Beach” program.  Charlotte-area “racers” represented the 21 participating organizations to avoid 112 tons of air pollution; they commuted the equivalent of 228,000-plus miles and saved $43,000 in fuel costs.
