UNC Charlotte Magazine receives national Gold MarCom Award
UNC Charlotte Magazine recently received a 2014 Gold MarCom Award in the category of educational publications.
SPARK Publications, the creative firm that designs the magazine, nominated the second quarter edition of the UNC Charlotte Magazine for the honor.
John Bland, director of public relations in the UNC Charlotte Office of University Communications, is the magazine’s editor.
“Every edition of our University magazine results from the dedicated teamwork of many people,” stated Bland. “All of us work part-time on this magazine, and so winning a national award reflects on the combined efforts of our entire team.”
Phillip Brown, internal communications manager, wrote the cover story “Trailblazers Turn Tassels,” which focused on the first graduating class of Levine Scholars, and campus photographer Wade Bruton provided the images. Susan Shackelford, an outside consultant, served as associate editor and contributing writers were Candice Langston, Jenny Matz, Jared Moon, Paul Nowell and Tom Whitestone.
UNC Charlotte Magazine is produced by the Office of University Communications up to four times a year; story ideas and content are submitted from campus communicators across the academic and administrative units.
MarCom Awards are a creative competition for individuals or companies involved in the concept, writing and design of print, visual, audio and Web materials and programs. The mission of the MarCom Awards is “to honor excellence and recognize the creativity, hard work and generosity of marketing and communications professionals.”
