Thomas Reynolds, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, is the University's research integrity officer. Appointed by Robert Wilhelm, vice chancellor for research and economic development, the research integrity officer (RIO) will receive and manage allegations of misconduct in research within the UNC Charlotte community.
UNC Charlotte recently revised University Policy 309 Responding to Allegations of Misconduct in Research and Scholarship to clarify procedures and establish a single point of contact for responding to concerns over misconduct in research and scholarship.
Research misconduct includes plagiarism, fabrication, falsification and other research activities that seriously deviate from accepted practices in the research community. In this role, the RIO also provides advice and consultation to faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows and students regarding any research integrity matter, even if individuals are unsure whether or not a violation of the policy has occurred.
