Early voting begins,’Vote Before You Go’ student Spring Break kick-off scheduled
Early voting for North Carolina’s March 15 primary begins Thursday, March 3, and continues through Saturday, March 12, which means faculty, staff and students can go ahead and cast their ballots. Because UNC Charlotte is committed to fostering a spirit of civic engagement, the University will host a free shuttle to the University City Regional Library, an early voting location, to enable interested students to vote prior to Spring Break.
A shuttle will run every half hour between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., March 3, and 10 a.m. to noon, March 4, from the front of the Student Union to the University City Library, 301 East W.T. Harris Blvd. (near the corner of W.T. Harris Boulevard and Tryon Street).
Mecklenburg County has 17 early voting sites where residents can cast ballots early through Saturday, March 12. Here are links for early voting information for Cabarrus and Union counties. The N.C. Board of Elections also has information on voting sites. For individuals who missed the February deadline to register to vote, they can register and vote during the early voting period, March 3-12, with proper identification.
The March 15 ballot includes the Connect NC bond, a $2 billion package that, if passed, would fund investments in education, parks, safety, recreation and water and sewer infrastructure. UNC Charlotte would receive funding for a new, $90 million science facility on campus. The University has accounted for more than 60 percent of the UNC system enrollment growth in the last five years, and 50 percent of its students with declared majors are in STEM fields.
