Test of emergency alert system scheduled for March 25

UNC Charlotte will test its emergency alert system between 10 and 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 25.

During this test, both a “red” and “yellow” alert banner will appear alternately on University websites. Each of these alerts should produce a LiveSafe message that will be delivered to all UNC Charlotte subscribers of this application.

Alertus software, used for emergency alerts, will post a message with test information to smart podiums, desktop computers and plasma screens on campus. Officials estimate about 8,000 desktop computers and 400 smart podiums will be affected.

Also, in the common and living areas of residence halls, there will be a test of Campus Televideo to display alerts on all televisions that use this service.

All alerts will indicate that a test is in progress and there is no actual emergency.

Emergency alert tests occur periodically throughout the year as part of the University’s emergency preparedness program. No special action by members of the campus community should be necessary during the test.

Direct questions about the test to Lt. Brian Thomas (bsthomas@uncc.edu) at the UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety Department.
