Habitat ReStore opens near UNC Charlotte

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Habitat for Humanity is one of many community organizations that students, faculty and staff volunteer to assist. With the new Habitat ReStore at 8104 University City Boulevard, campus members can engage with this nonprofit organization via a more convenient location.

The University City ReStore opened in the home of the former World Market store. Phil Prince, head of marketing and communications for Habitat of Humanity of Charlotte, said the ReStore “is the ultimate in responsible recycling” in an article for the University City Partners newsletter. He added, “Someone donates their gently used items, others come here and pay for them, they get reused and the proceeds help build a new home for a low-income family to purchase.”

In fall 2013, the UNC Charlotte Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter launched an effort to build a home for a deserving family on the University campus as part of Homecoming festivities; this campus-wide volunteer effort has become an annual tradition.
