Daytime light rail train testing underway

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

The project team for the LYNX Blue Line Extension has started daytime train testing between Old Concord Road and the UNC Charlotte campus. This testing will continue until the extension becomes fully operational.

Light rail trains will be traveling at very slow speeds on the tracks and stopping at the station on campus. Remember the train is not open for passenger service; stay off the station platforms and away from any parked trains.

Initially, there will be traffic flaggers and officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) at crossings along the route.

Drivers and pedestrians should follow the directions of traffic flaggers and CMPD officers and obey all warning signals and crossing gates. Once gates and warning signals are installed at all crossings, CMPD officers and traffic flaggers will no longer be present.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to allow additional travel time, as train testing may affect traffic along N. Tryon Street near campus.
