Camaraderie, community on display at Fall Festival
Barnhardt Student Activity Center was alive with food, dancing, games and more as University employees took advantage of the Staff Council’s Fall Festival, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
This annual event, which coincides with fall break, provided a brief respite for staff members to relax with one another and support a local nonprofit organization. This year, attendees could bring a donation for the Urban Ministry Center’s Room in the Inn for the chance to win a prize.
“The 2017 Staff Council Fall Festival was another great opportunity to celebrate UNC Charlotte employees,” said Penny Stevens, chair of the UNC Charlotte Staff Council. “Nearly 700 staff members enjoyed our Taco Tuesday luncheon and either played games, danced, competed in our contests or just socialized with coworkers. I want to thank all our Staff Council volunteers who helped make this event happen so successfully, and of course, a special thanks to all those who participated in the festivities. You are appreciated.”
As part of Fall Festival, the Staff Council holds a bake-off, photo contest, “craft-off” and a scavenger hunt.
Debbie Roseman from the Graduate School won the bake-off; Shanda Wirt, Lee College of Engineering, and Theresa Martinez, Registrar’s Office, placed second and third, respectively.
Photo contest winner was Tatiana Beregovski, ITS. Second and third place went to Fred Brillante, Facilities Management, and Lloyd Tiamfook, Financial Services.
Leana Zona, OASES, claimed first for the “craft-off,” with Dot Munson, FM recycling, in second and Mary Fisher, FM motor fleet, in third.
The Gold Diggers (consisting of Wanda Barr, Heather Benson, Sarah Ekis, River Peebles and Kathy Tomey from Human Resource) won the scavenger hunt for the third consecutive year. They tied with another HR team (Krista Collins, Jerrica Graves, Jules Keith-Le, Tiffani McCain and Rachel Pierson-Bonin) and had to correctly answer tiebreaker questions to maintain their crown.
