Les Kooyman, an associate professor at Montclair State University, will deliver the 10th annual Bob Barret Lecture on Multicultural Issues in Counseling. His presentation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 281. Space is limited for this free, public talk; RSVPs are required.
Kooyman has been a community leader and social justice advocate working on issues related to HIV/AIDS for 25 years. In 1985, he founded the Metrolina AIDS Project in Charlotte. For the past 10 years, he has been at Montclair State University in New Jersey. His research is focused on understanding the many factors that influence decisions around HIV transmission and sexual risk-taking behavior among marginalized populations.
On Friday, Oct. 20, UNC Charlotte will host the Multicultural Issues in Counseling conference. Both the conference and the lecture are sponsored by the Cato College of Education Department of Counseling and the Office of Educational Outreach.
