National Volunteer Week is April 16-20 and UNC Charlotte employees have numerous opportunities to join colleagues in a variety of organized service opportunities throughout the week.
The Office of Community Relations in the Division of University Advancement has arranged a special Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 18. Volunteers are needed to assemble sensory kits for Autism Charlotte, make 4,000 sandwiches and write inspirational notes for Operation Sandwich, build toiletry kits for Crisis Assistance Ministry and put together 1,200 meal supplement backpacks for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Additional National Volunteer Week opportunities include sorting and cleaning books at Promising Pages, reading to students at Nathaniel Alexander Elementary School, putting together care packages for Baby Bundles and gardening at Friendship Gardens. “UNC Charlotte employees have approximately 54,000 volunteer hours to use every year with Community Service Leave,” said Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. “Volunteering together strengthens the 49er community and fosters teamwork. I encourage everyone to use their hours and to consider the exponential impact our collective efforts have on fulfilling the missions of local community organizations.”
The University and the state of North Carolina support employees who are interested in volunteering during the workday through the Community Service Leave benefit. All full-time faculty and staff members have 24 hours during a calendar year for volunteer service.
