Interim associate vice chancellors for facilities management, safety and security appointed
Kathryn Horne, director of facilities planning, has been appointed interim associate vice chancellor for facilities management. She succeeds Phil Jones, who is retiring after more than 17 years of service.
Lee Snodgrass, director of facilities operations, will be interim associate vice chancellor for safety and security, succeeding Hank James, who is retiring after 9 years with the University.
They will begin their appointments effective Sept. 1.
“I am grateful to both Kathryn and Lee for stepping into these leadership roles while we continue the searches for Hank and Phil’s permanent replacements,” said Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs Beth Hardin.
Horne joined UNC Charlotte in 2015 as the director of space management and utilization before moving to her current position in January 2018. Prior to the University, Horne worked in capital planning and space management at Georgia Tech. Before that, she was a partner in Charlotte architectural firms, and during these roles, Horne led the design of the Popp Martin Student Union and other on-campus projects.
She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture from N.C. State University and a Master of Architecture from Clemson University.
Arriving at the University in 2011, Snodgrass manages the operation and maintenance of more than 100 facilities encompassing 9 million square feet on campus. Prior to UNC Charlotte, he served in similar capacities for the Downingtown Area School District and the Eastern York School District, both in Pennsylvania. Snodgrass was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1989 to 2000 and in reserve duty until 2010. Among many assignments during this time, he was a facility engineer at Balad Air Base in Iraq and Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in management from Troy State University.
