Cato College reorganization to strengthen connections

The Cato College of Education is making organizational moves to strengthen relationships with alumni and school and community partners, which play critical roles in the college’s mission.

Office of School and Community Partnerships

Tisha GreeneThe newly created Office of School and Community Partnerships (OSCP) provides support services to education candidates for clinical and internship experiences in local schools, districts and agencies. By fostering collaborative relationships between the college and community, the office seeks to enrich the experience of the college’s pre-service educators and faculty. OSCP is led by veteran Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) teacher and administrator Tisha Greene.

“We must ensure that we have a strong network of P-12 partners that can provide us with guidance, support and house our candidates to provide them with early and on-going clinical and field experiences,” Greene said. “Our office will help bring the faculty and school community together to support the mission and vision of the college.”

OSCP wields the combined resources of what were formerly the Office of Educational Outreach and Office of Field Experience to create a more comprehensive, streamlined approach to connecting students, faculty, schools and community partners. Prior to accepting the position as assistant dean for school and community partnerships, Greene was principal of Oakhurst STEAM Academy. She also served as executive coordinator for CMS’s chief academic officer. She began her career as a high school English teacher.

Greene holds a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s in English education from UNC Charlotte; her doctorate of education is from Wingate University.

Alumni Affairs

Misty HathcockThe college has named longtime faculty member Misty Hathcock its first director of alumni affairs. In this new position, Hathcock will serve as the primary contact for all alumni and coordinate with communications and events staff across the University to strengthen the college’s connections with its graduates.

“Our alumni represent our University and all that it has to offer—they are our Niner ambassadors,” she said. “The college makes its biggest impact through the teachers it producers, and their experiences in the classroom should inform our teaching.”

Hathcock has been with the college since 1998, serving in various roles including director of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, coordinator of the Teacher Education Learning Community and regional director of the North Carolina New Teacher Support Program. She is a five-time graduate from UNC Charlotte, receiving all of her degrees in education.

Cato College of Education alumni will have the opportunity to reconnect this fall when Charlotte 49ers football hosts Educator Appreciation Day. The 49ers will take on Old Dominion while alumni enjoy a pre-game tailgate, scoreboard shout-outs, commemorative T-shirts, discounted tickets and much more.
