Spend an evening with educators
The Charlotte Teachers Institute will host an “Evening for Educators” from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Discovery Place Education Studio.
During this event, attendees will learn more about innovative teaching ideas created by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) teachers who served as fellows in Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) seminars and summer research experiences.
Housed in the UNC Charlotte College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, CTI is an education partnership among the University, CMS and Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). Through CTI seminars, CMS teachers learn new content and work collaboratively with other teachers and partner institution faculty to develop new curricula for their students.
At the “Evening for Educators,” CTI fellows will share their innovative curricula on a variety of topics. UNC Charlotte chemistry professor Thomas Schmedake will partner with his CTI seminar fellows to deliver a group presentation on “The Art of Chemistry and Light.”
Register to attend this free event; refreshments will be served.
Other UNC Charlotte faculty members who mentored teachers presenting at the “Evening for Educators” include: Alan Rauch and Janaka Lewis, English, and Susana Cisneros from the Department of Languages and Culture Studies.
CTI also is co-sponsoring “Educator Preview Day,” from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture. Local educators will have the opportunity to experience new exhibitions: “Welcome to Brookhill,” “Question Bridge: Black Males” and “Hank Willis Thomas: What We Ask Is Simple.” RSVP to Andrea Chandler (angie@ganttcenter.org).
