Huffman appointed deputy chief of Police and Public Safety

Joshua Huffman is the new deputy chief of the Department of Police and Public Safety at UNC Charlotte.

Huffman, a UNC Charlotte alumnus, served as an officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and subsequently a captain with the University’s Police and Public Safety Department before his appointment to deputy chief. He was awarded the Life Saving Award from the North Carolina Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators for his actions following an explosion on campus. Huffman reports directly to Chief of Police Jeffrey Baker.

“Throughout Josh’s career, he served in diverse assignments at multiple levels of the police department and on numerous University committees,” said Baker. “He is well known across campus, and I am proud that he that he will continue to serve UNC Charlotte in this capacity.”

As deputy chief, Huffman oversees the Patrol Operations, Support Services and Criminal Investigations divisions.

“I have been with UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety since 2002. Over the years, this University has become my second home,” said Huffman. “My colleagues and coworkers are like family to me. I take great pride in being a part of this fine institution, not only as an employee but as an alumnus. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to serving the campus community.”

Huffman completed a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2016; he also is a graduate of the FBI Executive Leadership Institute Trilogy.
