University-affiliated podcasts vying to be Charlotte’s best

The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens produces the podcast “The Plants We Eat.” English professor Alan Rauch has “Air-udition,” and special education professor Donna Sacco has “Our Exceptional Children.”

All three are entries in the Queen City PodQuest, sponsored by NPR affiliate WFAE. Members of the campus community are encouraged to check out the podcasts and help one of them become the Charlotte-area’s favorite. According to WFAE, five podcasts will receive one-on-one mentorship and compete for a cash prize and the opportunity to have a podcast series at the station.

Jeff Gillman, director of the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens, co-hosts “The Plants We Eat,” which explores the history, biology and culture of the plants people use in their everyday lives.

“Air-udition” would focus on “curious professors who, in their research, are producing knowledge to delight and amaze their Charlotte neighbors.”

“Our Exceptional Children” would have an emphasis on children with exceptionalities and their families. In addition to personal stories from families, the podcast would share resources and strategies from national experts.

Individuals can vote in the Queen City PodQuest each day through Wednesday, Feb. 20 (this is an extension of the original deadline).
