University to conduct NinerAlerts test Friday, March 8
The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system from approximately 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 8. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media.
The test message will read:
NinerAlert: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.
Before the test, students and employees are encouraged to log in to Banner Self Service to ensure the listed cell phone information is correct.
Sirens: Approximately 15 minutes after the test message above is sent, the on-campus sirens will be tested. A voice message on the sirens will announce it is a test.
UNC Charlotte Center City: At approximately 10:30 a.m., a separate Alertus test will occur for UNC Charlotte Center City. Individuals at UNC Charlotte Center City or those with laptops assigned to UNC Charlotte Center City should see both tests.
In the event of an actual emergency, the tests will be canceled and appropriate instructions will be sent via NinerAlerts.
For questions about the University’s alert system or the test, email Chris Gonyar, director of emergency management, at cgonyar@uncc.edu or call 704-687-7884.
