Mass CPR trainings scheduled

For the sixth year, UNC Charlotte’s Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) is sponsoring a mass training of hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Thursday, Oct. 3. Three training sessions will be held in the Cone University Center, Room 210.

Space is limited for the sessions, which will begin at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.; click on one of the times to register.

EHS is partnering with Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC) and Atrium Health to offer these CPR training sessions.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere at any time, and by offering this training, EHS has a goal of raising bystander awareness. For every minute proper CPR is delayed, it decreases an individual’s chance of survival by 10 percent.

MEDIC paramedics will instruct participants on the proper hand placement to perform compressions on a CPR manikin. In addition, they will review the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The University has multiple AEDs located across campus, and the Oct. 3 training is an opportunity to learn how to use them in the case of an emergency. Atrium Health will provide free blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) checks.
