New look for bookstore includes social media, tech hubs
Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte, located in the Popp Martin Student Union, recently celebrated renovations aimed at creating a more inviting and friendlier environment that better connects with its customers.
“As the student body has shifted from millennials to Generation Z, our customers’ preferences have shifted as well,” said Cheri Griffith, bookstore manager. “Our goal is to stay ahead of those trends so we can continue to provide a quality experience for the UNC Charlotte campus community.”
While the renovation unveiled an overall refresh including brighter colors, a new entrance and an updated layout, the bookstore boasts a few new features.
Club Colors
Club Colors is a service offered through the bookstore that provides the campus community with promotional products and branded apparel. The service allows individuals or groups on campus to purchase products that can be personally branded for any gathering or event including shirts, mugs, backpacks and more. For more information, visit the Club Colors kiosk in the bookstore to speak with a representative.
Social Media Hub
Located in the back of the bookstore, the Social Media Hub is designed to provide students a friendly space to lounge in the bookstore. However, with a HD screen, internet connection, audio equipment and comfortable seating, it is an interactive space for small- and mid-sized campus events. It could be a perfect setting for faculty book events and signings as well as meeting and presentation space for campus organizations. Reservations are required and are available at no cost to anyone on campus through the bookstore.
Special Departments
In an effort to cater to campus life and events, the bookstore has created various departments prominently featured near the storefront offering products related to large campus happenings such as back to school, athletic events and Homecoming. During football season, the bookstore will feature an “All Things Tailgating” section full of items customers might want for their tailgate. Around graduation, there will be an “All Things Commencement” section.
Technology Hub
Located downstairs near the textbooks, the bookstore has created a small technology hub where members of the campus community can find technology needs, ranging from chargers to headphones.
