The Charlotte 49ers 2021 football schedule includes a slew of firsts: the first home game against an ACC foe; the first meeting with a Big 10 team; the first season in which they face a pair of Power 5 opponents; and, after six years in Conference USA, the first game against league member Louisiana Tech.
In head coach Will Healy’s third season, the 49ers will play a 12-game schedule that includes eight Conference USA games and four non-conference contests with six games at home and six on the road. The 49ers, members of C-USA’s East Division, will play the league’s six other division teams as well as crossover games with West Division foes Louisiana Tech and Rice.
Charlotte will face C-USA’s Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee and Rice at home. C-USA road games will include FIU, Old Dominion, WKU and Louisiana Tech.
Charlotte hosts Duke, from the ACC, in the 2021 season-opener, Saturday, Sept. 4, and will be back in Richardson Stadium to take on Gardner-Webb the following week. Charlotte’s first road game will be at Georgia State, Sept. 18. Charlotte will travel to the Big 10’s Illinois in non-conference action, Oct. 2.
The 49ers will open league play Sept. 25 at home against Middle Tennessee before heading to Illinois. A road trip to FIU, Oct. 9 wraps up play before the bye week. Charlotte hosts Florida Atlantic, Oct. 23 and heads to WKU, Oct. 30. In November, Charlotte hosts Rice, Nov. 6 before travelling to Louisiana Tech for the first meeting between the two teams, Nov. 13. Charlotte hosts Marshall, Nov. 20 in the final home game of the year and will complete the regular-season schedule, Nov. 27 at Old Dominion.
Note: all games are subject to date changes and some dates are expected to move in the coming weeks in order to accommodate national television. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
