Charlotte standout women’s soccer defender Meredith Hamby ’21 is one of 14 Conference USA recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, awarded to a student-athlete from each conference institution.

A May 2021 graduate, Hamby completed a bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a 3.902 GPA. She minored in biology and plans to enroll in the UNC School of Medicine, located in Chapel Hill.

She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team, advancing to the national ballot, and to the Conference USA All-Academic Second Team. Additionally, she garnered United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Third Team plaudits.

Hamby’s work in the classroom included being a four-time Conference USA Academic Medal honoree and a four-time selection to the Conference USA Honor Roll. She was tabbed to the league’s All-Academic team once before, following her junior campaign in 2019. Entering her final semester this spring, Hamby received Perfect Niner accolades for a 4.0 semester GPA three times, was a member of the Chancellor’s List six times and landed on the Dean’s List once.
