Charlotte 49ers four-year starting defensive end Tyriq Harris was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America Division I football second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. His selection as the first 49ers football Academic All-America adds to his long list of achievements garnered for excellence on and off the field.

Harris was named Academic All-District 3 for the second time in his career, last month, to land a spot on the national ballot. He graduated cum laude with a degree in biology with a 3.68 GPA and had a 3.65 GPA while pursuing a second degree as a pre-business administration major.

One of 12 finalists for the 2020 National Football Foundation (NFF) William V. Campbell Trophy (Academic Heisman), Harris was named to the 12-member NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. He was one of nine semifinalists for the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy (Community Servant) and a 2020 Senior CLASS Top 30 student-athlete. He was one of three players in the nation who was both a finalist for the Campbell Trophy and a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy.

A three-year team captain, Harris completed his career ranked seventh all-time in career tackles, fourth in career sacks and fifth in career tackles for loss.
