CHHS dean named to Hanger Institute advisory board

Catrine Tudor-Locke, dean of the UNC Charlotte College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), has been selected as a member of the external advisory board of the Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education (Hanger Institute) in support of its efforts to advance the clinical practice of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) and improve patient outcomes.  

The Hanger Institute launched in March 2021 to explore, expand and facilitate opportunities that advance leading-edge research, evidence-based care and quality education in O&P. To guide this mission, the Hanger Institute formed an external advisory board composed of highly respected, experienced members of the health care community.

Tudor Locke, who holds a doctorate in health studies and gerontology from the University of Waterloo, is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academy of Kinesiology. Other members of the advisory board are: 

  • Biykem Bozkurt, director of Winters Center for Heart Failure Research, and associate director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Baylor College of Medicine 
  • Judith Burnfield, director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, director of the  Movement and Neurosciences Center and the Clifton Chair in Physical Therapy and  Movement Sciences at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals 
  • Douglas Smith, professor emeritus, Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Washington;  professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Uniformed Services  University of the Health Sciences and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the  Advancement of Military Medicine
