GivingTuesday, observed on Nov. 30, is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. UNC Charlotte is continuing its tradition of participation this year by supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry and the Niner University Elementary to ensure current and future 49ers have the resources they need.
The Jamil Niner Student Pantry provides assistance to UNC Charlotte students who struggle with food insecurity with access to nutritious food and personal supplies. More than 2,126 pounds of food was donated to the pantry last year fulfilling 365 individual orders last fall semester.
Niner University Elementary is a public elementary school supporting students with high needs from low-performing schools, or individual students who are struggling with school. Aside from their learning experiences, students are in need of nourishing breakfasts, lunches or snacks while at school. Supporting NUE through GivingTuesday is a way to provide for the youngest Niners.
Joining forces
This GivingTuesday, UNC Charlotte welcomes additional campus units through individual efforts to raise funds, support food drives and increase awareness of food insecurity:
- Charlotte 49ers Men’s Basketball vs. Davidson, Nov. 30. Bring canned goods or a monetary donation to the game. Buy tickets
- Swipe out Hunger - UNC Charlotte students can donate their unused meal dollars toward GivingTuesday
- Community partnerships on tap this year: Pins Mechanical will host a night of fun supporting UNC Charlotte’s Jamil Niner Food Pantry. Food trucks, music and a silent auction are all part of the event, Nov. 30
