Alicia Bartosch serves as interim bursar, in addition to her role as assistant director of compliance. She is also a proud UNC Charlotte alumna and earned bachelor and master’s degrees in accounting from the Belk College of Business. Learn more about Bartosch’s role, what she loves about the University and advice for her fellow 49ers.

Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte?

I oversee all of the University's student billing and collection functions, as well as the University's Cashier Office, which is responsible for processing all University receipts and deposits. My team is made up of 10 full-time employees who work closely with our essential partners (i.e., Niner Central, Financial Aid, the Graduate School, Admissions, SOAR, Athletics, Student Health Center, Auxiliary Services, Housing and Residence Life and University Budget Office) to support student success. It really does take a village!

The great thing about my job is that it's different every day. I respond to questions from staff, key partners, students and parents and perform student data analysis for collection and financial aid disbursement strategies. In the current pandemic environment, I also work closely with the Director of Financial Aid to award Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) to students.

What do you enjoy about your work on campus?

I enjoy continuous learning and process improvement. I also enjoy making connections with people and building relationships with our leadership, partners, students and staff.

What is something about your work that every 49er should know?

Everyone should be enrolled in direct deposit to receive their payments (paychecks, refunds, reimbursements) faster, and if they come into contact with any receipts (cash, currency, checks, etc.) on campus, they need to be deposited with the Cashier’s Office within 24 hours.

What is your favorite part about being at UNC Charlotte?

My favorite part about being at UNC Charlotte is the people, our 75-year history and our mission to provide quality education. I also like giving back to my alma mater and am enjoying serving as co-chair of the 49er ACE Network

What are your favorite things to do on campus?

I love walking "the loop" on campus, to see all the glory it has become over the years since I was a freshman walking into the Friday building and living in Witherspoon Hall. Since then, we've added multiple academic buildings, a student union, intramural fields, a research campus, football stadium and most recently a Marriott hotel! It's amazing what this campus has become in such a short time. I also love coming to every 49er football game with my family. Go Niners!

What advice do you have for fellow 49ers?

Discover your talents, don't give up on your dreams and take nothing for granted. Enjoy the time you have here and recognize the impact you have on the lives of others. Make Charlotte your home, and you will always want to come back!
