Update on campus wastewater testing

Update on campus wastewater testing
Monday, July 18, 2022

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, UNC Charlotte has performed wastewater testing of campus buildings (now grouped into neighborhoods) to proactively mitigate the spread of the virus and to determine if infections are increasing or decreasing. The reporting structure of this testing has taken different forms, but the testing itself has continued since its implementation. As the virus and its variants continue to be present, here are a few things to remember:

  • The University regularly tests the wastewater on campus for the presence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. That data was reported weekly on the Niner Nation Cares website to inform the University’s response to changes in infections on campus.
  • Students, faculty and staff can opt for a free COVID-19 test on campus — Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in South Village Crossing. No appointment is necessary. Note: If you are experiencing symptoms, contact the Student Health Center to be tested instead of visiting the SoVi location.

A few other COVID-19-related reminders:

  • Vaccines and booster shots for COVID-19 are offered on campus every Thursday in partnership with Vax Van.
  • If you feel sick, complete the Niner Health Check, which is sent daily via email.
