Charlotte is the region’s research powerhouse. With nearly 30,000 students and counting, our trajectory is skyrocketing.

Most impressive, we attract a diverse and unique student body. Niners hail from 47 states and over 100 countries and 34 percent of undergraduates are first-generation college students.

Add in the Charlotte 49ers, more than 400 student clubs, 170+ academic programs, the Dubois Center in Uptown Charlotte and an undeniable Niner Pride from the moment you arrive, there are lots of reasons to choose Charlotte.

Here are five of our favorite reasons you should apply to be a 49er!

HANDS-ON LEARNING

At Charlotte, we will prepare you to hit the ground running with bold new thinking and skills honed in our innovative, interdisciplinary environment. In state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, you will be able to participate in cutting-edge research and hands-on learning that expands and accelerates progress.

Students in every academic field are challenged to apply their studies through real-world, immersive experiences in and beyond the classroom through research, internships, and community programs.

OUR THRIVING CITY

Our connection to the city allows convenient access to Uptown Charlotte for internships, performing arts, professional sporting events, festivals and other activities. The light rail extension on campus is revolutionary for students, staff, faculty, alumni and visitors.

As a banking, business and tech start-up hub, the city offers networking and career experiences at companies like Bank of America, Duke Energy, Amazon, Lowe’s and Atrium Health as well as local tech startups like AvidXchange and Red Ventures.

A DIVERSE AND GROWING COMMUNITY

With a diverse mix of people, cultures and ideas, our campus is a place of inclusion.

We encourage an environment that fosters a true sense of belonging. Here you will make real and meaningful connections and find strength in Niner Nation.

We have 400+ student organizations for you to explore and discover which is a natural fit for you. Joining a student club or organization will provide you with opportunities to make new friends, develop skills and abilities, be a part of a team, share your time and talents, and especially experience a lot of fun. SUPPORTIVE FACULTY AND STAFF

With a 20:1 student-faculty ratio, you will experience a welcoming learning environment that encourages participation and equips you for success. While many professors conduct research, they make teaching a priority so they can get to know you and help you discover and cultivate your passions.

Faculty encourage you and your fellow Niners to build connections through active learning and real-world projects. Because classes are small, it’s easy to connect with faculty mentors, meet guest speakers, network and find career paths that align with your goals.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SHAPE WHAT’S NEXT
