Meet Rachel Palmroos
Rachel Palmroos, a fourth-year political science major, was born and raised in Charlotte. Her father always predicted this would be her future school and true enough the Charlotte campus became her home. She is a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta, sweetheart of Zeta Beta Tau and field director of the North Carolina Young People’s Alliance.
What would you like to share about the organization you lead, and what is the most rewarding part of your position?
The NCYPA is unique as it specializes in multiple aspects of advocating for the democratic process. Our mission is to spread voter registration awareness by releasing accurate information about the voting process, which removes the intimidating factor of the bureaucratic procedure. An added benefit is that we can connect students passionate about politics. The most rewarding part of my position is that I can positively impact our campus and make sure the voices of Niners are being heard. Also, my goal to implement Democracy Day is currently being examined by SGA, which would give students more flexibility with class attendance on election day to alleviate stress.
What are your favorite places on campus, and what do you love about UNC Charlotte?
The outside tables by the Cone Center and Colvard Building. I find this is a great study area to focus and enjoy the Charlotte weather. Beyond these spots it is nice to walk around because you interact with the greater community atmosphere that campus provides. I get to see friends everywhere I go and experience what I call a “small town vibe” while being present in a massive city.
What three words describe UNC Charlotte best?
Green, engagement and unity.
Where is your favorite place to eat on campus, and what do you get?
This is a hard decision but I want to stand out with my answer, so I will say Panda Express. I typically get a broccoli and beef bowl, with half chow mein and half fried rice.
What do you like to do when you aren’t studying?
I really enjoy being with my three cats. They give me energy! Additionally, I prefer outdoor activities such as hiking Crowders Mountain. However, after a long day I love watching movies and having a pizza night with friends.
