Kobe Brown is a first-generation college student. A senior majoring in criminal justice, he is a distance runner for the Charlotte men’s track and field team. Additionally, he is vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, attorney general for the Student Government Association and has volunteered for the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services.

Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?

I immediately fell in love with the campus. The aesthetic at Charlotte is unique and very lively. The proximity to the city is a great benefit, and I get to hang with my sister, who lives in Noda. The light rail being free is so convenient for students to take advantage of. Lastly, our University has an exceptional track program!

What do you love about UNC Charlotte

I love the opportunities at Charlotte. People do not realize how big our presence as a school is. We can compete with any other school in North Carolina in virtually any field, especially academics. It is amazing being able to transform ideas into real-world benefits. Our school demonstrates how putting in hard work and dedication can create impactful change.

Where is your favorite place on campus

I cannot pick just one favorite spot, but I will say throughout our campus there are so many terrific areas to check out. I frequently spend time at the UREC, Popp Martin Student Union and Botanical Gardens.

What has been your favorite class and why

Topics in criminal justice. You are graded on engagement not exams, which I have never experienced before. I was skeptical toward the class originally, but it challenges my critical thinking with diverse subjects. It is a stimulating academic environment that prioritizes collaboration.

What are three words to describe UNC Charlotte

Opportunistic, comradery and boisterous.

What's a fun fact about you many people may not know

I am an introvert that has mastered extroverted tendencies.
