The fall 2022 edition of UNC Charlotte Magazine, with a new look and style, offers compelling stories about the ways our accomplished alumni, innovative faculty and staff members and creative students are “Shaping What’s Next.”

49ers Megan Mitchem, Brayden Vanmilligan, Lisa Insixiengmay and others are taking advantage of Charlotte’s educational opportunities and access to transform their lives.

Researchers Dan Janies and Adam Reitzel, co-directors of CIPHER, are leading Charlotte’s newest center taking an interdisciplinary approach to protect public health, and theatre professor Carlos Cruz uses his “circus with a purpose” to tell the story of the migrant experience.

Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert ’94, Charlotte city official Alyson Craig ’13 and management professor Janaki Gooty are among the 49ers who are driving progress in the Queen City and beyond.

Peter Giannatos ’14, founder of the Charlotte Chess Center, and professor Tamara Williams, who is dancing with the past to preserve history, illustrate how Charlotte is committed to equity and engagement in the greater Mecklenburg region.
