Meet Katie Turner and Josh Miller
Meet Katie Turner, marketing director for business services, and Josh Miller, teaching assistant professor of political science, a husband and wife whose love story started in Florida and blossomed at UNC Charlotte. Read their story, what they love about working together and UNC Charlotte and their favorite spots on campus.
How did you two meet?
My husband and I met as undergraduates in Florida and relocated to North Carolina for Josh’s graduate program. He received his Ph.D. from UNC Chapel Hill, where I worked for a little over seven years.
How did you both end up at UNC Charlotte?
He taught at UNC Charlotte to fill in for a faculty member for one and a half years and fell in love with his department and the culture of the University. After teaching at Elon, UNC Wilmington and UNC Chapel Hill, he decided that Charlotte had the best students, so he joined the faculty in fall 2018. He convinced me to leave my position at Chapel Hill and come to Charlotte, where I began a new position in business services in 2018.
What’s the best part of working with your spouse at UNC Charlotte?
We love working at Charlotte because we get to carpool to work together and catch up on our day. Sometimes we get to work with the same students and see them grow over their four years at the University. We love the opportunity to have lunch together on occasion and go to the UREC together.
What’s the best place for a date on campus?
SoVi is our go-to. The menu is new every day, and we like splitting a selection of cakes and cookies over coffee for dessert. We also like eating in the Botanical Gardens when the weather is nice. The picnic tables and gazebo are usually uncrowded, and we enjoy watching people walk through and discover it.
Anything else you both like doing on campus for fun?
We like working together at the Thoughtful Cup. It’s nice to get out of our offices and it’s fun to see the students in a different environment. We were both part of the brainstorming for the name and design, so it’s great to hang out in a place you had a hand in making happen.
