Why did you join the Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus?

This organization, which has always been led by amazingly supportive and dedicated members of the Latinx campus community, continues to provide advocacy, social connections and support for Latinx staff, faculty and students. I joined the group because I care about affirming and uplifting our diverse and beautiful Latinx communities in higher education and in the broader Charlotte region.

How has the Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus enhanced your UNC Charlotte experience?

I’ve been fortunate to have grown under the mentorship of amazing Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus members like Professor Yvette M. Huet. Through their guidance, I’ve learned a lot about institutional infrastructure and how to become a committed and compassionate leader who continues to support community activism and engagement.

Can you describe your crowdfund project?

The Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus is raising funds for the Yvette M. Huet Sí Se Puede Scholarship, which is the only UNC Charlotte scholarship awarded to students who are serving the Latinx community. We award this scholarship to junior and senior undergraduates who are completing their degree requirements while diligently working towards the uplift and success of Latinx populations in the region.

Why should Niner Nation make a gift to your crowdfund project?

Latinx populations are a growing demographic in North Carolina and in Charlotte, in particular, and this puts our students at UNC Charlotte in a fantastic position to contribute to their ongoing success. If you value the diversity and strength of Latinx communities and want to honor the dedication of our students who are forging the way for future Latinx leadership and empowerment, please donate today!
