Meet the food delivery robots
They zip. They zag. They deliver your food fast.
Ok, so maybe they don’t quite zag ninja style, but they have a mission to deliver food all over UNC Charlotte’s campus, wherever you are, as efficiently and strategically as possible.
Dining services teamed up with Starship, a robot food delivery service company, to provide a delivery option never offered at UNC Charlotte. Whether you’re a student or a faculty and staff member, the robots will save you time. Order food and have it delivered nearly anywhere on campus. Say goodbye to interrupted study breaks or standing in line for food in between classes, and say hello to fast delivery wherever you are.
What they do
These delivery robots deliver food from on campus vendors right to you. Starting on Wednesday, March 8, a limited number of retail dining locations will be available on the Starship app so they can warm up and get to know campus. Eventually, more campus food vendors will be on the robots’ route. Here are the places they deliver from so far:
- Wendy’s
- Bojangles
- Shake Smart
What you do for them
They don’t need much. They’re here to serve you and bring you your favorite beverages, meals and treats in their insulated pouches. All they need is a small delivery fee on the Starship app and a location to meet you.
Sounds great right, but how do these robots find you, and how do you order?
How to order
So glad you asked! Ready to officially meet one of these robots while receiving your favorite meal, snack or beverage? Here’s how you do it:
- Download the Starship delivery app
- Select UNC Charlotte from the list of universities
- Set your delivery location
- Order from retail locations on campus
- The robot picks up your order and brings it the delivery location
- Use the app to unlock the robot and receive your order
See the robots in action on business services’ YouTube channel. Better yet, meet them in person on campus. They would love to serve you.
