Lee College of Engineering staff member Franklin Green has died
Franklin Green, research operations manager for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science, died March 8.
Green, who joined the University in August 2004, managed the electronics and instrumentation labs for the MEES Department. He was responsible for setting up new equipment and maintaining existing equipment. He also assisted faculty to develop experiments for their classes.
Harish Cherukuri, chair of the department, stated, “Franklin was a valued member of our team, and he will be greatly missed. Overseeing our labs meant everything to him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Stuart Smith, a professor in the department, noted, “Franklin was transformative to the management of the instrumentation and many other labs. What stood out to me was his strong belief that the way to understand engineering processes is through rigorous measurement and the subsequent need to extract the information provided by such data. He was steadfast in his conviction and diligent to ensure that the students were provided with both the tools and the challenges to break through to this understanding.”
Funeral services are scheduled for noon, Monday, March 13, at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church, located at 1243 West Blvd., Charlotte, N.C. 28208. A quiet hour will begin at 11 a.m. Contact Kings Funeral Home to send flowers.
