Recently, UNC Charlotte dedicated a bronze sculpture depicting Irwin “Ike” Belk, one of Charlotte’s most prominent leaders and a historic figure in the life of the University.

UNC Charlotte will offer a live video stream of today's ceremonies via the Web. Adobe Flash Player will be needed to view the video stream. Residents in the Charlotte area can tune into a live broadcast of each ceremony through UNC Charlotte Cable Television Channel 22 on Time Warner Cable.

North Carolina will have its fourth year of slow but uninterrupted economic growth in 2013, UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton reported in his quarterly forecast for the state.

The Colvard Building opened in 1979, and its steel-frame and curtain-wall construction and many energy-saving features were considered progressive for its time. Harry Wolf of Wolf Associates designed the structure, and he won the 1980 South Atlantic Regional AIA Honor Award for his work.

The College of Health and Human Services will host the third annual Health Services Research Doctoral Student Symposium from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, in CHHS, Room 376. The event will include presentations by five first-year doctoral students on topics ranging from social determinants of health to access and utilization of healthcare services among underserved populations.

One of the most revered dance companies in the world – the Martha Graham Dance Company – comes to Charlotte on Friday, Jan. 18. The UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture is hosting the dance company for its first performance in the Queen City in more than 30 years. It will take place at 8 p.m. in the Knight Theater, Levine Center for the Arts.

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) will offer a new challenge to help employees whose New Year resolution includes eating smarter and exercising more.  The "Biggest Winner" competition will start on Monday, Jan. 7, and this eight-week contest is designed to motivate participants to reach their weight-loss goals.

Daniel Janies, Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Bioinformatics and Genomics, is an invited speaker at the “Symposium Emerging Infections, Microbial Threats to Health and the Microbiome” being hosted by the National Academy of Sciences Dec. 11-12.
