Amy Wartham, director of corporate and custom training, recently received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the category of human relations. This is the highest honor a state employee can receive for dedicated service to the state of North Carolina and its residents.
In her role, Wartham leads a team in providing businesses and organizations with high-quality, custom training programs within the School of Professional Studies. In her 23 years at UNC Charlotte, she has demonstrated exemplary leadership and made significant contributions to increasing the University’s reputation through her work with some of Charlotte’s largest organizations.
Wartham was instrumental in the creation of the University’s webinar series for Charlotte employees. This free interactive series provided Charlotte employees with the tools needed to tackle some of today’s toughest challenges by addressing three key areas: morale/burnout, productivity/effectiveness and poor management. The webinar series received 828 registrations before the first webinar was delivered, with representation from almost every unit on campus.
Wartham was among 41 Governor’s Award for Excellence winners, which included individuals and teams from various state agencies. Recipients were recognized at the awards ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Museum of History in Raleigh.
The Governor’s Awards for Excellence were created in 1982 to honor state employees for outstanding achievements; employees can be nominated in one of six categories: customer service, efficiency and innovation, human relations, outstanding government service, public service and safety and heroism.
Wartham is UNC Charlotte first Governor’s Award for Excellence recipient since 2016.
