Recast as an open house, “A-Cone-A-Fair” makes a special return from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, throughout the Cone University Center to commemorate the building’s 50th anniversary.  The event will highlight Cone Center’s history of student dedication, featuring historical exhibits and displays alongside the current student services that reside in the building.

The Department of Africana Studies in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will hold its 12th annual Africana Studies Symposium in April 2014. It will examine the “widening gaps of national and global inequality through the lens of moral economy.”

Duke Energy’s sustainability team recently visited UNC Charlotte to learn more about the campus’ sustainability initiatives.

UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School has established its first Graduate School Advisory Board.  Members will serve primarily as advocates for graduate education and help promote public awareness of the incredible breadth and depth of graduate programs found at North Carolina’s Urban Research University, according to officials.

Jody Pressley, project leader for the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS), is featured in the November issue of School Bus Fleet magazine as one of “14 Phenomenal Women in School Transportation.”

UNC Charlotte Center City has received a prestigious award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Regina Guyer, executive director of the University’s Environmental Assistance Office, and Karyn Williamson-Coria, administrative support specialist, were recognized recently for their outreach efforts to raise awareness about air quality issues.

Ayman Hajja, a Ph.D. student in computing and information systems in the College of Computing and Informatics, will defend “Object-driven and Temporal Action Rules Mining” at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 426. Zbigniew Ras is the dissertation advisor.

The UNC Charlotte chapter of Phi Kappa Phi recently received a Chapter of Merit Award, given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.

 The 24th-ranked Charleston Southern Buccaneers (8-1) piled up 548 yards with its option offense but needed 15 fourth-quarter points to pull away for a 36-14 victory over the visiting 49ers.  Charlotte forced two turnovers against a team that had allowed just six all year, and recovered an onside kick as they continued to come up with ways to stay in the game.

Three dance and theatre professors from London’s Kingston University will visit UNC Charlotte to collaborate on a planned student theatrical production. They will be working with Maryrica Lottman, associate professor of Spanish.
